2015 CHATEAU DE REY – COTES CATALANES RED - COTES DE CATALANES IGP (LANGUEDOC-ROUSILLON), FRANCE – ORGANIC FARMING

Cotes Catalanes is one of the most important appellations in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France, covering the Pyrenees on the border with Spain. Here in the commune of Caneten, Roussillon just a short jaunt from the Mediterranean Sea you'll find Château de Rey. As fourth generation winemakers in this corner of the Roussillon, Cathy & Phillipe Sisqueille use sustainable farming methods to bring out the best in their vines. The character in the bottle is a result of the ideal climate of breezes from the sea keeping freshness in the diverse wines offered here. The personality of the domaine shines through not only in the unique flavor profiles of each wine produced, but also with the inventive and playful labels designed by Cathy. This month’s primary red is their C15 made with 100% Carignan. The grapes were hand-harvested and destemed, only free run juice was used to make this…for those who never heard the term “Free Run Juice” is a winemaking terminology referring to the juice that flows from freshly picked grapes during the de-stemming and crushing process, prior to the pressing process. When winemakers put the grapes into the winepress, the grapes are stacked on top of each other and the weight of the fruit causes the release of some juice. Red wines made from free-run juice are rare; only a limited amount of free-run juice is produced during the winemaking process and thus winemakers who choose to sell it under a separate label can do so for a much higher price point. Speaking of limited, this wine was imported to the US in a tiny amount because of this, only 15 cases. This wine is a delicious example of Carignan, and when served at the proper temperature (60-65F) and decanted for 1 hour, you will find the fresh, juicy and unadulterated notes of violets, hibiscus and red plums, bright and pure without any oak. Pure fun! Try with grilled tuna, roast beef sandwiches, mushroom pizza or even pork ribs. This wine will age another 5 years. $22.99

CLIENTS WHO RECEIVE 1 RED WINE & 1 WHITE WINE WILL RECEIVE THE ABOVE WINE &:

2016 BERTANI – “VELANTE” PINOT GRIGIO - VENEZIA GIULIA IGT, ITALY – VEGAN & GLUTEN FREE

When you shop at Anne’s, you truly take home delicious wines chosen by well trained palates. This wine was brought to us via Master Sommelier Fred Dame. During one of our study lessons, he poured this wine for us to truly delve into classic a Pinot Grigio. The clean notes of citrus and the lovely coppery gold color…he wanted us to engrain into our mind what classic and great Pinot Grigio is. We studied the wine but most of all, we loved the way it tasted. Needless to say, once we tasted this wine, we knew we had to bring it and share it with our wine club members. We think you’ll find a new favorite wine to love. But first let us talk about the producer, Bertani. Located near Verona in the province of Veneto, Italy, Vinicola Bertani is one of the region’s most important and influential wine producers. Founded in 1857 by two brothers, Vinicola Bertani owns its vineyards and oversees the entire winemaking cycle. To maintain its well regarded quality, Bertani engages the skills of some of Italy’s most eminent wine professionals. From its vineyards to its cellars, Bertani harvests their grapes at the beginning of September and traditional white wine fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at temperatures of 57-60ºF. Chill this wine to about 45F, then pour yourself a pale gold glass of delicious wine. You will notice the complex bouquet with scents of golden apples, citrus and stone fruits. The palate is crisp, dry and medium-bodied with flavors of apple, ripe peach and pear. And that finish? It goes on and on!! Serve this wine alongside salads, light appetizers, grilled fish, and vegetable dishes, as an aperitif or garlic pasta dishes. $15.99

CLIENTS WHO RECEIVE TWO RED WINES RECEIVE CHATEAU DE REY RED &:

2016 ARADON – TINTO - RIOJA, SPAIN

Aradon was a village which existed in Roman times but which mysteriously disappeared. Aradon was situated at the top of a hill, which nowadays is occupied by vines of up to 90 years old, belonging to the winery. The village of Aradon was located near several Roman roads and a Roman aqueduct called “Puente Moros”, which was built in the 1st and 2nd centuries A.D. From 1957 onwards and continuing to the present day, in the village of Alcanadre, which is located just east of Logroño, vinegrowers, from Alcanadre, have chosen to pay tribute to Aradon by naming their wines after it. These wines are produced with fruit coming from ancestral vineyards, grown with care and expertise by our experienced vine-growers, whose knowledge has been passed down through the generations over centuries. And this wine is a great example of what is coming from this region. A blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha, all fermented in cement vats with no contact with oak whatsoever. The aromas will burst out of this glass, with notes of raspberries, cherries, and hints of baking spices. The palate is well developed with the same berry notes and structured acidity to enhance the mellow tannins. This wine is a great match for pork chops, paella, mild sausage dishes. If cheese is on your mind, try a Manchego or Iberico! $14.00

CLIENTS WHO RECEIVE TWO WHITE WINES RECEIVE BERTANI PINOT GRIGIO &:

2015 GRANBAZAN – ALBARIÑO “ETIQUETA VERDE” (GREEN LABEL) - RIAS BAIXAS, SPAI

Granbazán farms only Albariño vines in Val do Salnés, a sub-region of the Rías Baixas, which is centered around the town of Cambados. Val do Salnés is the site of the oldest Albariño plantations. It is also the coldest and wettest of the five sub-regions. The average temperature for the year is 55°F and it rarely exceeds 85°F, even in the hottest part of the summer. We chose their “Etiqueta Verde” Albariño for our wine club for two reasons…it is hot and humid lately…we need refreshment, and because it tastes delicious!!! The grapes are hand-harvested and de-stemmed before undergoing fermentation in stainless steel tanks which helps to lock in and amplify aromas and structure. Etiqueta Verde is made with a combination of free-run juice (remember how special that is?) and lightly pressed juice. It is aged on the lees for no less than four months before bottling. This is a classic style albariño. Pale golden color, with green hue. Complex aromas of green apples, grassy, citrus and tropical fruits and event hints of white flowers. Mouth filling sensation of crispy acidity. Elegant, balanced and pleasant. Enjoy this with briny seafood dishes, ceviches, oysters, etc. Asian cuisine is also a fantastic pairing for this wine! $21.50
