2015 FREDI TORRES – “MONTSANT” RED BLEND

Montsant DO, Spain (Catalonia) – Biodynamic & Organic

Fredi Torres was born to a farming and fishing family in Galicia. He spent much of his childhood in Switzerland, where he later worked for Nike and then spent nearly a decade touring full time as a DJ in the European House music scene. But his rural, Iberian roots eventually called him back to the land. He studied viticulture and wine making in Switzerland and then sharpened his skills while working in Burgundy, Argentina, South Africa and at the famour “Clos Mogador” in Spain. From the beginning and till today, the focus is on organic and biodynamic farming in the vineyards and non-interventionist winemaking in the cellar. For this month’s red, we present you with his Monsant blend. A blend of 85% Grenache, 12% Carignan, and 3% mixed white wine. The fruit comes from a 12 acre vineyard in Montsant. The grapes are hand-picked, fermented and aged all in stainless steel tanks, actually the only thing ever added to the wines is a little sulfur at bottling. This delicious red is best consumed at 60F, allow to breathe for about ½ hour, then you can enjoy the inviting aromas and flavors of raspberries, cranberries, pomegranates, with a hint of Provençal herbs. The tannins are smooth and on the lighter end, with acidity that enhances the fruit and the finish. This wine is a perfect companion to the Thanksgiving turkey with cranberry sauce. Be sure to share this with friends and family!

CLIENTS WHO RECEIVE 1 RED WINE & 1 WHITE WINE WILL RECEIVE THE ABOVE WINE &:

2017 VINOSIA – FIANO DI AVELLINO “LE GRADE”

Campania, Italy

Vinosia by Luciano Ercolino tells the family history that goes back over a hundred years in an ancient land, the Irpinia, within the heart of Campania. Here since 1887, a simple farming family has pursued their utopia, a winery that produces unsurpassed traditional wines from the region with minimal impact on the environment. While using the latest technologies and advances to create consistently beautiful wines, Vinosia still looks to the history of the region to maintain the integrity of the region and the wines that come from it. The winery consists of over 300 cultivated acres, of which 1/3 are directly owned and the rest are under direct management with long-term contracts. There are 7 separate vineyard locations, each specifically selected for the wine being produced. Only a few hundred cases of this wine make it to the US. This month’s primary white is their “Fiano di Avellino”. Fiano is native to Campania and in most recent years we have seen a few vineyards successfully planting it here (remember Rock Wall Fiano?). This is the way the Italians enjoy it. The Fiano was hand harvested in early-October with soft whole cluster pressing; fermented in stainless steel and aged in the same tanks for 3 months. This rich wine has hints of almonds, walnuts with floral notes and tropical fruits finishing dry, warm, smooth with hints of honey. Perfect white wine for Thanksgiving Turkey and it also pairs nicely with lobster, swordfish, white meats, light sauces and young cheeses. This wine can be enjoyed up to 3 years after release.

CLIENTS WHO RECEIVE 2 RED WINES RECEIVE MONTSANT RED &

2016 CASA MARIN – “CARTAGENA” PINOT NOIR

DO San Antonio Valley, Chile – Sustainable Farming & Winemaking

91 Descorchados (So. American Wine Magazine)

Chilean Pinot Noir? Yes! This varietal is quickly becoming a favorite in the cooler regions of South America…having made quite a mark in Argentina, now it does the same in Chile. This particular winery, Casa Marin, was featured in our wine club in August of this year with a hit of a wine, their Riesling, which you loved!! The winery Casa Marin, located in the San Antonio Valley (West of Santiago), has vineyards with soils that are producing incredible fruit which translates to delicious wines. The winery is run by María Luz Marín, owner, the first female winemaker and winery owner in Chile. After graduating from the University of Chile with a degree in agronomy and winemaking, Maria Luz worked in various wineries, and in 2000 (and against advice from colleagues) she successfully established the first cool climate winery in South America, producing wines scoring well over 90 points. Her Son Felipe Marin has followed in her footsteps, and studied in both California and New Zealand. He assists his mother and is also producing wines. The winery has become quite the force to beat! When we tasted this Pinot Noir, we decided to save this one for your Thanksgiving tables. The Cartagena Pinot Noir can be described as Casa Marín's most fruity and fresh one. The grapes come mainly from clay soils and are harvested two weeks earlier than their other Pinot Noirs. The wine is aged 12 months in neutral French oak barrels. This Pinot Noir is lighter in color but has intense red fruit aromas. It has a lively acidity which gives the wine more depth. Think raspberries and cranberries in a delightful symphony. This wine is best served at about 60F and is perfect with the Turkey. This one is sure to delight the whole group gathering around the table on Thanksgiving. This wine will also make a great companion to meat such as chicken or pork.

CLIENTS WHO RECEIVE TWO WHITE WINES RECEIVE VINOSIA FIANO &:

2014 DOMAINE LYNCH SOUQUET – “VILLA DONDONA” ESPEREL WHITE WINE

Languedoc, France ORGANIC WINE

Just above the village of Montpeyroux, originally the site of Roman villas is where we find “Villa Dondona”. A meeting of two personalities: Jo Lynch, a British artist enthused by the south and a French doctor transformed into a winemaker, André Suquet. She is a painter, also specializing in the drawing of animals, she designs all the labels, he was a doctor and is really a poet in the vineyard, his great passion. In 2000, he wanted to offer Jo a garden. As a British artist she had always dreamt of a garden but their ancient home in Montpeyroux did not have any. Instead it was 21 acres of wild land at the foot of the Larzac that would become the vineyards. André decided to turn this into vines, he decoded their language and nurtured them into certified organic purveyors of beauty and wine. The white grapes are protected in the shade of cool pergolas about 10 feet above ground level. Protected from the heat, the grapes ripen in the shade which makes for freshness, vivacity and minerality thus producing fresh aromatic wines, that are fruity but with a beautiful acidity. This wine is a great example of what this couple produces. It is a blend of Grenache Blanc 40%, Vermentino 40%, Roussane 10%, Marsanne 10%. A rich, silky blend of white grapes that will be perfect with the Thanksgiving dinner. All fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve and enhance the fresh white flower aromas. This wine is well balanced between freshness and richness it is very charismatic. This wine should be served at Chardonnay temperature (45-50F) and can be served as an aperitif or as the “white” wine accompanying the main course, the turkey. Only 50 cases importer to the US.
