2013 MIRA – CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Napa Valley, California

We are so excited to bring you this wine to the wine club. A fantastic winery and a killer deal!!! But first let’s talk about the winery. In 2009 entrepreneur Jim “Bear” Dyke and winemaker Gustavo A. Gonzalez launched Mira Winery and began to acquire some of the best blocks from leading vineyards exclusively from the Napa Valley. They were determined to become producers of fine wines from limited production vineyards in Napa Valley. Wines that were interesting, balanced and a true reflection of their place, varietal, and season. Gustavo has been making wine in Napa for over 20 years and around to world to wide acclaim. Gustavo has worked in California, Italy, France, Argentina and Brazil, but specially in Napa with his time at Robert Mondavi Winery. Gustavo has been rocking the wine world, especially when he made the 100 Point from Wine Spectator, 2001 Tenuta dell’Ornellaia “Masseto” Toscana, truly a gifted winemaker. Gustavo has quickly established Mira as one of the top producers of small production wines and we can’t’ be more excited that to introduce you to his winemaking via our wine club. We know you are going to love this wine. This delicious wine is made with 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, Cab Franc at 3%, and just 2% of Petit Verdot. Fermentation took place in partially new French oak barrels. The aging time was a lengthy 18 months. This wine is a Cabernet lovers delight, with powerful fruit focus. Complex aromas that include myrrh, black coffee and pipe tobacco. Flavors of dried mission prunes, smoked meat and Mirabelle plums are coated by an assertive yet pleasure driven texture that define the purity that is Napa Valley. This wine begs us all to break out the grill and get our favorite steak cooking. But if you want to serve it with snacks, try English cheddar with caramelized onions or get your favorite posh pizza and enjoy this wine with it. $40.00

2017 GAINTZA - TXAKOLINA GETARIA
Getariako Txakolina (Basque Region), Spain – ORGANIC WINE CCPAE CERTIFIED NO OAK

Guipuzcoa, in the Getaria sub region of the Spanish Basque country, is a surfer’s paradise. Long, rolling tubes and pristine beaches attract paddlers from all over the world to soak up the salt and sun, in search of the perfect ride. When they come ashore to refuel, very often they are pouring glasses of Txakolina, the refreshing effervescent indigenous wine of the Basque country. Bodega Gaintza is among the most popular, and with its vineyards situated on the bluffs overlooking the bay in Guipuzcoa, it is a wine that is unmistakably of this place. Gaintza, meaning “on top of,” refers to the aspect of the winery overlooking the bay in Guipuzcoa. Here is where four generations of the Lazkano family have prepared, produced, and distributed txakoli wines. Great-grandfather José Antonio has made txakoli—for family consumption and sale in neighboring villages since 1923. This month our primary white wine is a fun entry to the wine club. This Txakolina is made with the native grapes of the region, Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Beltza, as well as the maritime variety Gros Manseng. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks during a 45 day, slow fermentation, with no malolactic, meaning that the wine’s acidity will be bright and on point. Aged for 8 months in stainless steel. Bottled at 0 degrees of natural sugar, meaning this wine is a dry and “skinny wine”. The slight spritz you get from this wine is a natural carbonation from finished fermentation in bottle. Chill this wine, and I mean chill! This wine performs better cold! First you will notice the slight spritz bubbling in your glass along the bright green-yellow hints of color. On the nose, high toned aromas of lemon, quince, green apple and sorrel are overlaid with sea spray and stony mineral notes. On the palate, puckering acidity and effervescence lend a practically gulpable appeal, with flavors of bright Meyer lemon, apple and green herbs. Finishes salty and clean, begging for another sip. The light and acidy nature of this wine makes it a perfect partner to seafood, cured meats, and hard cheeses like the Basque-made sheep's milk cheese idiazabal. It's a perfect with fried snacks as well, and since it's not too high in alcohol, this wine is ideal for sipping all afternoon (and all night) over plate after plate of tapas.

2016 OUTLIER WINES – “NOIRO” – PINOT NOIR
Carneros-Sonoma, California – Sustainable Farming

We love finding wines like this!!! Quality, value, and fantastic flavors. Artisan Wines is owned and operated by winemaker Derek Rohlffs, and he is recognized as one of northern California’s winemakers to watch! With a degree in Environmental Studies from the program at UCSB and a stint at a wine shop, he realized that his calling was to make great wine. Once he began winemaking in 2000, Derek proved to be a natural. Within 5 years, he had developed private label wines for famous chefs as well as his own brands of value wines, several of which became best sellers of online retailers. These projects would serve as funding for his ultimate ambition—terroir-driven wines from great Northern California vineyards—which launched in 2007. For his Artisan Wines, Derek selects fruit with great balance and flavor that can be made into highly enjoyable wines. And this wine is not different. This 100% Pinot Noir came from Carneros, one of the top regions for Pinot Noir in California. He made the wine to focus on the virtues from this “undisclosed” vineyard and to focus on the fruit notes. The wine was fermented using the whole cluster method and it was done both in a combination of oak and stainless steel fermenters, followed by 14 months of aging in both new and neutral French oak barrels. This wine is the kind that gets better when allowed to breathe, and if you don’t finish the bottle the first night, no worries it tastes great on night 2 as well. Be sure to put the cork back on! This is an easy drinking Pinot Noir with notes of tart red cherry, tart red plum, carnation, sassafras, and bright acidity to tie it all together with the silky tannins. A lovely finish as well. Make your favorite Duck dish, pork chops, or even Carnitas tacos with this delicious wine!

2017 DOMAINE DES AUSBIERES – VOUVRAY CUVEE DE SILEX
Vouvray (Loire Valley), France – Organic Wine

Vouvray is a French wine region in the Loire Valley located in the Touraine district just east of the city of Tours in the commune of Vouvray. The Appellation d'origine contrôlée is dedicated almost exclusively to Chenin Blanc and this is where we find Bernard Fouquet, a quiet-spoken man, who is making some of the most serious Vouvray you'll find these days. He is regarded in France and the international press as one of the top Vouvray producers. No one succeeds better than Bernard in capturing the mineral tones unique to Vouvray’s soil, with the marvelous balance of explosive fruit and titillating sensation of the Chenin Blanc grape. Vouvray Cuvée de Silex is the wine we selected from his extensive selection of wines for our wine club. This is a dry Vouvray from 2 flint soil parcels. Entirely hand-harvested and only indigenous yeasts used. Fermented and matured in stainless steel thermo-regulated vats. Vouvray is a great alternative to those who enjoy rich, full bodied white wines…a wine for those who already enjoy the richness of Chardonnay but want to expand their palate with other grapes. This wine must be chilled to about 43F and upon serving you will notice the pale yellow color, the lovely nose that reminds us of pear, yellow apples, peachs and white flowers. The wine is soft, yet fresh with a silky mouthfeel and lingering freshness. The bright acidity makes it a lovely wine to have with Asian cuisine, Pork dishes, or even fish dishes. This wine makes a great apéritif as well !
