JEAN LOUIS DENOIS – BRUT BLANC DE BLANC SPARKLING WINE – LIMOUX (LOIRE VALLEY), FRANCE
Each December we seek a bubbly to enhance the joy of the season. This year we found a beauty from the Loire Valley perfect to accompany you and your loved ones in your celebrations. Jean Louis Denois is a one man show, a sixth generation wine producer from Champagne. Jean-Louis Denois has brought world-class technique to the sparkling wines of Limoux, an area that has produced sparkling wine for hundreds of years longer than Champagne. This elegant bubbly is produced with 100% Chardonnay grapes and made in the traditional method otherwise known as Champagne method. Fermented in stainless steel to enhance the minerality and fruit of the palate, this wine was then aged another year in the bottle before it became available to us all. Jancis Robinson – a celebrated wine educator and wine critic has praised this winemaker with making “exceptionally good fizz, much more like champagne (though I wonder whether the champagne lawyers would even allow me to make this
observation) than any wine labeled Limoux I have ever encountered”. We here at Anne’s found this wine to have notes of tropical fruit on the nose, much like mangoes and apples layered with minerality and a touch of yeast. The palate is quite crisp, bright and with the flavors of granny smith apples and minerals, it will pop as the creamy bubbles dance on your tongue. With a lovely clean finish, this specific type of bubbly will pair beautifully with freshly shucked oysters, fried appetizers, and/or by itself. A fantastic choice for New Year’s eve for a mere $21.99, during the month of December to all wine club members it is only $18.69.
2007 PIERCE VINEYARDS – TOURIGA – SAN ANTONIO VALLEY (MONTERREY COUNTY), CA
Pierce Ranch Vineyards is a small production, family-owned winery centered in southern Monterey County's San Antonio Valley. Their wines are limited-run, estate-grown, with an emphasis on Spanish and Portuguese varieties. As a smaller operation that approaches winemaking in an artisanal manner by handcrafting each lot. This wine is made with two grapes typical to Portugal, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, both considered some of finest red grapes from Europe now growing in Monterrey county. This wine was aged in American and French oak for 18 months and when you open this wine and allow it to breathe for about1 hour, you will be rewarded with rich aromas of dark cooked berries, vanilla, and even some baking spices, a powerful nose indeed. The 2007 Touriga flavors are also a full-bodied expression of these two grapes with notes of black currant and black plum combined with traces of dark chocolate, and earth with a lengthy finish. Treat this wine like a Cabernet Sauvignon; let it breathe for one hour and then pair it with your best steak, lamb, or spicy fare. Great wine for $19.99 – December this wine is only $16.99 for our wine club members.
Red Only wine club members receive the Pierce Ranch – Touriga and:
2009 DOMAINE GALEVAN - “Paroles de Femme” COTES DU RHONE, RHONE VALLEY, FRANCE
Coralie Goumarre is the owner and 9th generation winemaker and vine growers at Domaine Galevan. Coralie wants to make wines with "féminité et d'élégance" (femininity and elegance) to showcase her unique style and the best of what her grapes have to offer. Coralie’s winery boasts a certified organic stamp since 2011. This wine was also brought to us by Claire Barroy, who travels to France in search of the best small production wines she can find and brings only small amounts into Southern California for us to share with you. This Paroles de Femme (Words of a Woman) Cotes du Rhone is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, 10% Cinsault, and 10% Carignan; all fermented in cement vats which enhances the minerality and the quality of the fruit. This wine has lovely aromas of black berries, musk, and even some baking spices. The palate has flavors of cherries, plums, fantastic acid in the mid-palate, and the final finish reminds us of coffee grounds. Nicely balanced, everyone in our tasting panel loved this wine. Be sure to allow this wine to breathe for at least one hour, and then pair it with beef stews, beef stroganoff, and even ham. The normal price for this wine is $16.00 during the month of December is discounted 15% for wine club members to $13.59
White Only wine club members receive the Jean Louis Denois Sparkling wine and:
2010 BRASSFIELD – “SERENITY” PROPRIETARY WHITE BLEND – LAKE COUNTY, CA
Brassfield Vineyards was started by Jerry Brassfield back in the 1970s and as time passed he has added more land to the vineyard and is always seeking ways to improve his vineyards and wines. This is why we were interested in this wine and subsequently impressed with it. Jerry has just hired a new winemaker David Ramey , winemaker and owner of Ramey Wine Cellars, a highly acclaimed, small production winery in Napa. The 2010 vintage is their inaugural vintage of Brassfield’s and Ramey’s creation the Serenity blend. This wine is a lovely blend of 65% Sauvignon Blanc 28% Pinot Grigio, and 7% Gewürztraminer, with aromas of mangos, pineapples, and key lime pie. The flavors of Bartlett pears, citrus, and honeydew melon linger in your mouth. Crisp, fresh acidity, with a touch of sweetness, makes Serenity a terrific match to spicy Asian dishes or simply to enjoy a glass by itself during an evening in front of the fire. Chill to 43 to 45 degrees and enjoy it as an aperitif, with light salads but would also pair nicely with roasted turkey! The normal price for this wine is $12.99 During December wine club members only pay: $11.04
