JANUARY 2012 WINE CLUB WINES

JANUARY 2012 Wine Club Information
Happy New Year! This month we bring you a fantastic lineup of wines to warm up the new year!

Clients who receive 1 WHITE wine and 1 RED wine will receive:
2007 GAMBLE VINEYARDS – “HERITAGE SITES” RED WINE – NAPA VALLEY, CA
Gamble Family Vineyards is a small production; family owned and operated winery. It was started in 1981 by Tom Gamble and his family. They produce outstanding wines that are true to the vineyard and true to the source. They believe in farming organically and in allowing the terroir to guide them in what the final product will be. This wine comes from their “Heritage Sites” Vineyard located in the northeast portion of the St. Helena appellation and is both the warmest and coldest of the Napa Valley micro-climates that they farm. During the growing season, the vineyard has the widest temperature swings between night and day. This leads to very full bodied wines. This red blend is made of 49% Zinfandel, 33% Syrah, 9% Petite Sirah, and 9% Charbono with less than 600 cases produced. This wine was aged for 18 months in American oak barrels. This garnet hued blend is an intriguing mix of sweet and savory. The familiar ripe Zin nose of smoky blackberry, black cherry, plum jam, and vanilla toast transitions to a much more savory palate. Vibrant layers of forest fruit, dark meaty flavors, white pepper, clove, and sage. Each of the four varieties has room to express themselves and together create a more complete and interesting wine. Pair this bold wine with BBQ meats, hearty stews, or hard aged cheeses. $23.99 but during the month of January this wine is only $20.39
2010 ALLIMANT LAUGNER – GEWÜRZTRAMINER, ALSACE, FRANCE
This Allimant-Laugner family from Alsace has been making wine since 1724 and today, Hubert Laugner, who took over the domain in 1986, is the 9th generation winemaker. Our intern Nicolas Laugner is his son and the oldest of the next generation of winemakers and in addition will be running the winery. This Alsatian winery produces wines from only Alsatian varietals (6 white and 1 red) and only bottle single varietal wines, which is characteristic to Alsace. In this winery, people are attached to the traditional method. The winemaker is seen as an alchemist who works with the nature and only produces what nature intends. This month, we bring you most aromatic wine from Alsace; the Gewurztraminer. Entirely fermented in stainless steel. This grape varietal is believed to have its roots in 1870 in Tramine in the Dolomites (North of Italy) and the word Gewurz means spices in German. You are not taken by surprise if we tell you that this wine is full of spices such as clove or cinnamon with gingerbread, flower aromas, notes of ripe lychee and the richness of a ripe mango. The palate is rich, round and delicious and the finish will stay with you for a while. This wine is ready to pair with strong cheeses such as Munster, Maroilles or Epoisses. It is also a perfect pairing with Asian and spicy foods. This wine is normally priced at $22.00 but during the month of January it will only be $18.79.
Red Only wine club members receive the Gamble Family Red blend and:
2009 FINCA VIDES TORCIDAS – MALBEC – MENDOZA, ARGENTINA
Winter is a great time to sip red wines. We recently tasted this fantastic Malbec, rated 90 points by Wine Enthusiast and also in their “Best Buy” list. This wine is imported into the US in small amounts and you can still get it for a reasonable price? Not an easy combination but this wine delivers. Made from hand-picked Malbec grapes, first fermented in stainless steel tanks to enhance the fruit, then aged in American oak barrels for six months to smooth out the tannins and add a touch of vanilla to the overall flavors. As soon as you pour the Torcidas Malbec in the glass you know it’s going to have plenty of flavor and structure. It displays deep purple color, with aromas of blackberries, plums, and spice notes. There is a lot more structure on the mid-palate then you normally find in a $15 Malbec. Most are just simple and velvety. This one is fuller-bodied with loads of black fruit flavors and good backbone. Open this wine and allow it to breathe for about ½ hour, decant if you can. Then do as the Argentineans do, grill some steaks and/or lamb and enjoy! Priced at $14.99 but during January wine club members only pay $11.89
White Only wine club members receive the Allimant-Laugner – Gewürztraminer and:
2010 CAMPOS DE LUZ – WHITE BLEND – CARIÑENA, SPAIN
Ignasi Lopez is a man with a mission - and a rather simple one at that. A native of Spain, Lopez set out on a mission to "make wines that consumers wanted" and to sell them at affordable prices. The problem was that many of the winemakers in Spain were making wines that were over oaked for the average American consumer, and the winemakers saw no reason to change.
Eight years ago Ignasi and his partner Robert Hunter saw this potential and formed Vinergia, and set out to find growers and winemakers who would make wine that would appeal to American tastes. Vinergia fulfills their stated mission with the Campos De Espana line of wines. This wine has an easy to drink quality, varietal expression, and great prices. All of the grapes for each of the Campos De Espana wines are all estate single producer wines supervised and crafted with the Vinergia team. The Campos De Luz White Estate Carinena is a tasty blend of 50 percent Viura, a native Spanish white grape, 40 percent Chardonnay and 10 percent Muscat. The wine offers aromas of fresh fruits (pineapple, peach) combine with a hint of jasmine and grassiness on the nose. The palate has the weight of the Chardonnay, combined with the freshness of the Viura to make an attractive and very drinkable wine. Priced at $12.99 but during January it is discounted at $11.04

Remember, if you purchase any of the wines listed above during the month of JANUARY 2011, you will receive a 15% discount, an additional 5% discount to your normal (all the time) 10% discount. Thank you, sincerely for your business.
