anne’s Boutique Wines – OCTOBER 2012 Wine Club Information

Clients who receive 1 RED wine and 1 WHITE wine will receive:
Corvidae is the Latin name for the family of birds that includes the Crow, Raven, Jay, and Magpie. These "dark" birds are everywhere in the vineyards of eastern Washington. Their reputation as crafty, adaptable, and somewhat dubious characters is a fitting icon for the terrific value wines from this winery. And these birds along with the writings of Edgar Alan Poe inspired the label and the name for this perfect October red wine: “For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore, nameless here forevermore.” The Raven - Edgar Allen Poe. The geology and climate there yields rich, complex fruit, with luscious fragrance, and bright acidity. This Red wine is made with 95% Syrah and 5% Petite Sirah, aged in neutral French oak barrels for 9 months. This vintage is tasting fantastic and the winery considers it one of their best vintages yet. This wine is full of aromas of intense spice, bright purple and black fruit, and a beautifully textured mouthful of lovely, perfectly balanced blueberry and cracked white pepper. 4,000 cases produced This deep, purple-hued wine will really give you something to crow about! This wine retails for $18.99.
Importer Jorge Ordonez has become synonymous with high-quality Spanish wine. Whenever we can attend a trade tasting featuring this prolific wine importer’s wine, we know that we will find some gems for our clients. In the last few years Mr. Ordonez has upped his investment by actually purchasing several Spanish estates and taking over every aspect of operations. The wine we present to you as our primary white wine for October is one of them. The product of Ordonez' newest acquisition, a superb Rueda plantation of old-vines Verdejo that goes by the moniker of Nisia. Verdejo is used by many growers in northwestern Spain as a workhorse to blend with other wines. Of course, Ordonez' Nisia is above and beyond this description. Produced from 50 year old vines, fermented in stainless steel tanks, and aged in large French oak casks for only 3 months. This wine features a hint of white peach on the nose and follows through with ripe and abundant fruit that never wavers from its clearly dry style. The rich, mouth-filling texture is a smile-inducing bonus. With a clean, refreshing, and complete finish this is a perfect summer white at a great price. Think of a Very Good Sauvignon Blanc but with distinct notes of apricot, and a side note, although the vines are organic, this wine is not labeled so. Steven Tanzer gave this wine 90 Points. Pair this wine with your favorite shellfish and or light cheeses. This wine retails for $16.99.
Red Only wine club members receive the CORVIDAE - LENORE SYRAH AND:
The mission of Masseria Altemura is to offer a new perspective on wines from the Apulian Region (heel of Italy’s boot). It is located in the center of the Apulian region, between the Ionian and the Adriatic seas, which lap the coastal shores of the region. This unique geographical area enables Masseria Altemura to benefit from an unusual maritime climate and intense sunlight exposure which provides very favorable conditions for the cultivation of grapes. Our second red wine entry for October is made with 100% Negroamaro, which is a red wine grape variety native to southern Italy. It is grown almost exclusively in Puglia and particularly in Salento. The grape can produce wines very deep in color. Wines made from Negroamaro produces some of the best red wines of Puglia, and we think this 100% Negroamaro will be a fantastic new addition to your wine collection. The grapes are delicately pressed and destalked. Skin contact lasts about eight days during which the wine acquires its personality. With vinification completed, the wine matures for 12 months in small oak barrels, followed by an additional period of fining in the bottle. When we sampled this wine, the nose reminded us of a lightly oaked Tempranillo, in other words, aromas of raspberries, a touch of vanilla, jam, and just the right amount of spiciness. This medium bodied wine has great acid to tannin ratio, making it a very well balanced wine with just a touch of root beer candy left in the palate. This wine would be a fantastic wine to pair with a medium-rare steak, or if cheese is your preference, then a Rosemary encrusted Asiago cheese is a must try. This wine retails for $16.99.
White Only wine club members receive the BODEGAS ORDONEZ – NISIA VERDEJO and:
Without doubt, the Greco di Tufo, from which the wine of the same name is made, is the oldest variety of the Avellino area. It was imported from the Greek region of Thessaly by the Pelasgian peoples. The Greco variety was originally cultivated on the slopes of Vesuvius, where it was given the name Lacryma Christi. It was later planted in the province of Avellino, where it was given the denomination Greco di Tufo. This wine is an expression of the area and its inhabitants who produce it, through their dedication, thus making it one of the leading centers of Italian winemaking. The grapes are harvested in the second two weeks of October. The must is settled and then fermented at cool temperatures using selected yeasts. The wine is aged on its lees in stainless steel but sees no oak. Then it is aged in the bottle before release. This wine has pale-medium gold reflections with a rich and powerfully aromatic nose of apricot, apple, peach, and citrus fruits. On the palate it is full bodied, soft and well balanced with excellent acidity. It improves with age. It is ideal with hors d'oeuvres, shellfish, grilled fish dishes, buffalo mozzarella, chicken, and cold meats. And since this October seems to be quite warm, this wine is perfect!! This wine retails for $22.99
Remember, if you purchase any of the wines listed above during the month of OCTOBER 2012, you will receive a 15% discount, an additional 5% discount to your normal (all the time) 10% discount. Thank you, sincerely for your business.
