2013 BODEGAS SERRA SALINAS –“MO”MONASTRELL
ALICANTE DO, SPAIN

This hearty red is produced by Bodega Sierra Salinas, and is a project of the Spanish viticultural family Castaño. The winery is located in the southern area of Spain called Alicante. A mountainous region with dry, almost desert like climate, ideal for the grapes used in this wine. The winery was designed by Josè M. Abellan, an architect from Yecla, who wanted the winery to be a showpiece of innovation and technology. The building was designed to take the wine process from grapes to bottle with as little pumping manipulation as possible. An internal gravity system was designed within the winery to rack the wines without the need for electric pumps, making the winery a perfect combination of technology and tradition. In this region of Spain, tradition brings Monastrell into focus. Monastrell is grown in other parts of the world and it is known by other names, Mataro (Catalan) and Mourvedre in the Rhone and Provence regions of France. This delicious red is a blend of 80% Monastrell, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet). All the grapes are hand-harvested and go under a strict selection process before going into the stainless steel tanks to ferment. Then the wine is aged in French oak barrels for only 4 months. This wine has an intense red color, with a purple rim and medium depth. Aromas of fresh red fruits, with hints of spices and reminiscent of a bakery. Soft mouth-feel, notes of juicy red fruit, a good structure and a long tannin finish with balanced and pleasant acidity. This wine will pair with Lamb, Pork Loin, or beef ribs. $17.00
CLIENTS WHO RECEIVE 1 RED WINE & 1 WHITE WINE WILL RECEIVE THE ABOVE WINE &:

2015 DOMAINE DE L’YDILLE – ROUSETTE DE CRUET SAVOIE
SAVOIE AOC, FRANCE

If you love white wines this region of France is for you, 70% of all wines produced in this region are white wines! Savoie (also spelled Savoy) is a French department, located deep in the French Alps. Savoie is not a single region, it consists of many isolated sub-regions and plots of vineyards scattered across the area, which is under 5,000 acres accounting for a mere 0.5% of French wines. This winery has been in the same family since 1840 when François Tiollier bought the land where fruit trees and vines flourished already. He added the house to the property and then christened it Domaine de l’Idylle. Idylle means love story. Unable to have children, the property skipped a generation to his nephew Albert. Albert Tiollier, focused more on wine production than fruit and his efforts were recognized in 1920 with the first of many medals for Domaine de l’Idylle. Before the Second World War, Albert handed the reins to his son André who, together with his wife Henriette, became the first generation to bottle the wine on site. In 1975, the next generation saw brothers Philippe and François Tiollier in charge and expanding the vineyard to its current size of 50 acres, devoted exclusively to wine production. The brothers added new wines to the range and began international distribution which today spreads far beyond their native Savoie to Asia and USA in 2011. We are excited to introduce you to this delicious wine. Made with the Savoie native grape Altesse, which is grown best in the clay-limestone soils of the region. The grapes are hand-picked, with fermentation occurring in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then allowed to age with the lees for 6 months to bring richness and natural volume to this lovely wine and no oak influence. This wine has a complex nose, of ripe fruits like cantaloupe, apricots, and peaches, even some hints of white flowers, and fresh butter. The palate is delicious with fresh acidity and silky texture, almost as if you just took a bite of a ripe peach. This wine is consumed in Savoie with the local Beaufort cheese or as an aperitif. We recommend pairing it with a scampi, grilled white fish, or Fettuccini in a butter sauce. $20.00

CLIENTS WHO RECEIVE TWO RED WINES RECEIVE THE BODEGAS SERRA SALINAS “MO” MONASTRELL &:

2015 GIACOMO GRIMALDI – “PISTIN” BARBERA D’ALBA
BARBERA D’ALBA (PIEDMONTE) – ITALY

This lovely red is produced by one of the most respected producers of Barolo in the Piedmont region. The winery Grimaldi Giacomo was founded in 1930 by Ernesto Grimaldi and is located in Langhe. In 1983 the winery was inherited by Giacomo, who is known for selling in bulk the majority of the wine produced on the estate and only bottles what is consider the best juice. The family prides itself on great attention and devotion for the care of the vineyards. First selecting the best clones that can give a small production but with best qualitative characteristics. Around two months before harvest, the amount of clusters of grapes is reduced in each vine to increase the quality of the grapes that will be used in the production of their wines, they believe in quality versus quantity. The Barbera d’Alba Pisitn grapes are selected from three vineyards located in Monforte d’Alba, Barolo and Novello vineyards. The vinification is done in stainless steel fermentation tank and once the fermentation is done, the wine is allowed to age in those same tanks for 9 months with no oak contact before bottling. Only 833 cases are produced of this delicious wine and even less exported to us in America. This is a serious Barbera, youthful but serious too. This wine holds its own with bright notes of cherry, dry rose petals, and just a hint of licorice. Medium-bodied with firm acidity and moderate, dry tannin – nicely balanced. The palate offers the same notes but do allow it to breathe a little before you consume it. We recommend ½ hour of decanting. This wine should age well for another 3 to 5 years. Pairing suggestion: try it with your favorite lasagna, pizza or even a hamburger. Barbera d’Alba is not a complicated wine and it loves uncomplicated food as well. $24.99
CLIENTS WHO RECEIVE TWO WHITE WINES RECEIVE DOMAINE DE L’YDILLE – ROUSETTE DE CRUET AND:

2014 PATRICE MOREAUX – “CORTY” POUILLY-FUME
POUILLY-FUME (LOIRE VALLEY), FRANCE

This is a Claire Barroy wine! Enough said! But we will expand for those of you who have not met Claire. This wine comes to us from one of our favorite French wine importers. Claire has brought us some of the best French wines we have ever encountered since the store opened in 2008. This wine is from a fantastic producer working in the Loire Valley, the Moreux family. Winemaking has been a tradition with them for several generations. Patrice Moreux and his twin sons Arnaud and Julien own 86 acres in the Loire Valley. Their wines come from vineyards, with an average age of 30 year old Sauvignon Blanc. The finesse from this and the other wines (also at Anne’s) comes from the flint stones and the richness of the clay and limestone in the soil. This wine is made with 100% Sauvignon Blanc and is all made with wild yeast respecting tradition in order to get the purest expression of the grape. It is aged in stainless steel and concrete tank on its fine lees. This wine has a brilliant pale yellow color with a light green tint. The nose is expressive with notes of Meyer lemons, granny smith apples, and pears. Fresh and supple acidity with delightful mineral notes on the finish. This wine makes a wonderful pairing with fish tacos, vinaigrette topped salads, or even a dozen oysters! $27.00
