It's not often that winemakers have the perfect tools at their disposal to craft a wine they would consider one of their best. The 2012 growing season, however, marked one of those rare occasions. Indeed, everything fell into place to allow Zinfandel to ripen slow and evenly. That was particularly true in Quivira's three estate vineyards which form the foundation for this wine. Zin from Anderson Ranch contributed hightoned red fruits while Wine Creek Ranch added structure and classic Zin spice. A bit of fruit from Goat Trek brought concentration and tannin balance to the blend. We also sourced fruit from some of the top growers in the region, making the 2012 a classic Dry Creek Valley Zin.
This is one of those rare Zins that delivers richness yet still retains its finesse. There's a brambly mix of raspberries and black cherries in the 2012 balanced by pepper, earthy tannins and enough acidity to keep things interesting. A perfect wine to serve with grilled pork chops (in fact its great with just about anything off the grill) or with a hearty bowl of spaghetti bolognese.
Wine EnthusiastThis producer always does a nice job with Zinfandel and this is no exception, a fairly-priced offering of fresh-picked blackberry, red berry and blueberry. Sanguine and leathery in the background, it's balanced, too, with a finish of black pepper.
